Book Review: My Blogging Journey

Again, when you surround yourself with good people, you surround yourself with good books. The moment my fellow club member, Dr. LaWanna Parker, pitched her latest book in the meeting, I knew I had to get my hands on it. Why bother to settle for a pricey feast cooked by a NYT Best Seller? Give me a culinary whipped up by a cook I know, I’ll savor every bite.

My Blogging Journey” is a collection of essays Dr. LaWanna penned during the Covid isolation. She wrote them for an online blogging event called “31 Days of Personal Growth and Reflection.” I guess back in those days, the whole world had plenty of time to reflect. What really matters is we find peace amidst the fear and unknown. Kudos to Dr. L for the time well spent.

It’s a list of 31 topics. They seem scattered at first glance but once completed present a vibrant and authentic portrait of the author. From “Early Childhood Memories” to “My Guilty Pleasure,” from “My First Celebrity Crush” to “My Pet Peeve,” each topic reveals a layer of the writer that extends beyond the boundaries of the club meetings. Now I know the quiet, slow-talking Dr. LaWanna has a much richer life, nurtured by a collection of over 10,000 books, thousands of songs, and a portfolio of…
