I am sorry that you've got some unpleasant experiences starting life in S. Korea. I guess you are traveling around the US army base Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul. It's not a highly-developed area compared to other parts of Seoul. But I guarantee you will soon start to love the city and the country. Seoul is the best city I have ever stayed in.
Very thoughtful to give a head-up on how the cultural shocks come from the impact on upbringing experiences. Truly shocks come from the large difference, one way or another. As I would take the other way -- Seoul is cleaner, has better traffic discipline than any large city in China, by far.
Rest assured the food in Korea will compensate, with a large margin, all your unpleasant experiences. And the restaurants treat western people like kings. Enjoy it!
